On 21 August 2020, two different social units were recorded in this area with an estimate of 21 individuals in total (12 in the first and nine in the second). The Mediterranean sperm whale subpopulation is considered Endangered under the IUCN Red List and an understanding of its movements and social structure is lacking. These observations increase our knowledge on its conservation biology and possible threats.
2023-02-21T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2023 Davide Ascheri, Elena Fontanesi https://journal-iwc-live.netxtra.dev/index.php/jcrm/article/view/367 Short Communication: Rare record of a southern right whale (Eubalaena australis Desmoulins, 1822) with calf in Ilhéus, Bahia, northeastern Brazil 2022-03-17T11:45:28+00:00 Thomas Foucart contato@ecosulturismo.com Alice De Moura Lima contato@ecosulturismo.com
This note reports an unusual observation of a mother and calf pair of southern right whales on 27 July 2021 off the coast of Ilhéus, Bahia state, northeastern Brazil.
